The gardens of the 17th-century Czartoryski Palace in the central-eastern town of Puławy are set to receive a fresh wave of attention thanks to their new feathered resident, according to state news agency PAP.

The bird was purchased by the local Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation, which is headquartered in the Czartoryski Palace, from a breeding farm in Garwolin, central Poland.

The albino peacock is the only such bird on public museum grounds in Poland's eastern Lublin region, the PAP news agency reported.

The snow-white bird is a variation of the blue Indian peacock, which has resided in the gardens of the Puławy palace for several years now.

“I brought the first Indian peacocks here a few years ago," from Kozłówka in eastern Poland, "because I thought the palace grounds are a perfect place for them to live," the institute's director, Prof. Wiesław Oleszek, told PAP.

As the peacocks enjoyed huge interest from visitors, the institute decided to bring their rare albino cousin to join the other inhabitants of the palace gardens.

For now the white bird is living in the aviary, but will be released to run free as soon as it gets used to the new surroundings, according to Oleszek.

"It is a mature male and next year it should walk around the park proudly displaying its beautiful, snow-white tail and becoming a major tourist attraction," Oleszek said.

Currently, around 15 peacocks can be seen roaming free around the palace gardens, alongside a flock of pheasants, the PAP news agency reported.
